Homemade kitchen staples

Making your own kitchen staples can be rewarding, can be more economical and is one way to be sure of what you are eating.

You can easily cook up a batch of homemade tomato sauce, either using fresh tomatoes or tinned tomatoes ready to to use in your favourite pasta dish. If you make it yourself it will not contain any artificial flavourings, colourings or other unnecessary ingredients.

Homemade jams and chutneys are not only a good way to stock up your cupboards, they make a useful homemade gift for families and friends too.

Below are just a few ideas. For more recipes click here.

Tomato sauce

Make your own tomato sauce using tinned tomatoes ready to use in your favourite pasta dishes.

Caster sugar

If you run out of caster sugar you can easily make a substitute using granulated sugar.

Chilli seasoning

Chilli seasoning is my go to spice blend for chilli dishes. Simply use in place of your usual sachet of seasoning.

Red onion chutney

This caramelised onion chutney is perfect for sandwiches and cheeseboards and is simple to make.

Mixed spice

This mixed spice blend is the popular British mixed spice commonly used in British baking recipes for cakes, biscuits, puddings and fruit bread.

My next newsletter will be on or around 21 May. I am going to reschedule newsletters to twice monthly instead of weekly. I plan to send them on or around the first and third Wednesdays of each month, this will give me more time to spend trialling new recipes and publishing new posts. You can of course visit Veggie Ideas any time you wish.

Until next time🙂
