First I would like to share a couple of new posts, lentil ragout and espresso cake.

Lentil ragout is a wholesome dish which can be served as a main meal or side. It is made using plant based ingredients cooked in red wine with herbs. It is simple to make, can be prepared in advance and is suitable for freezing. What is there not to like about this dish?

Espresso cake is a coffee Victoria sponge filled and topped with mascarpone cheese frosting. It is simple enough for an everyday cake but also perfect for entertaining.

March is a time when we are transitioning from winter meals to spring foods. One day it might be chilly and you still fancy a cosy winter dish, and another day you may be keen to move on to lighter spring meals.

It is a good time for fresh greens including asparagus, broccoli, spinach and leeks. Take a look at a selection of recipes to try in March.

Broccoli and blue cheese risotto

A simple one pan meal packed with different textures and flavours.

Spinach croquettes

Cheesy spinach croquettes make a tasty appetiser, side dish or finger food for parties.

Mushroom and leek quiche

Can be served warm or cold for a vegetarian lunch or dinner.

Asparagus filo quiche

An attractive way to make the most of asparagus season.

Looking ahead to Easter (which falls on 5 April this year), you might like to treat yourself to some homemade hot cross buns. These soft fruity and lightly spiced rolls are delicious toasted and buttered.

I will have more spring recipe ideas for you next month.

With the chilly weather over the last few weeks, I've been making lots of filling and comforting foods such as cakes, puddings, and soups. I recently published a recipe for ginger sponge pudding. It is oven baked, has a honey and lemon syrup and is just the thing for winter days. Bake, turn over onto a plate and top with extra syrup for a gooey, sticky treat. What I like about this pudding (apart from it being simply delicious) is that it is baked in the oven and no lengthy steaming is...

Add a dash of colour and flavour to January days with one of these zesty citrus recipes. Now is a good time to make a batch of orange marmalade when Seville marmalade oranges are in season in the UK. And as this recipe is suitable for long storage it will keep you in stocked up over the months ahead. These chocolate orange shortbread biscuits have been popular in recent weeks. They are simple to make, perfect for freezing and are one of my favourites. Or you could try this orange and ginger...
