What to make in September

September is a time when we transition from summer to autumn dining.

It is a good time to make the most of seasonal fruits such as apples, pears and plums. Tarts and crumble puddings are a perfect way to use autumn fruits. They can also be used to make this mixed fruit chutney, a tasty condiment to add to sandwiches or a cheeseboard.

If you have a glut of tomatoes this easy tomato chutney is a good way to preserve some to enjoy over the months ahead. Simply pop the ingredients in a pan and cook! It will be ready to enjoy over Christmas and also makes a useful homemade gift.

This is also a time when sweet potatoes come into season in the UK. Why not try this lightly spiced sweet potato and ginger soup, make a batch of sweet potato cookies or some sweet potato gnocchi to serve with roast vegetables and your favourite pasta sauce.

Baked apples

Baked apples are one of the simplest of September desserts but also one of the best. Serve with a scoop of ice cream or custard.

Pear and almond tart

This tart combines fresh pears with almond frangipane in a sweet pastry case to create a delicious autumnal tart.

Sweet potato soup

Sweet potato soup is a hearty vegetarian soup seasoned with fresh ginger and is perfect for autumn days.

Apple custard tart

This spiral tart is made using filo pastry, slices of apple and homemade custard to make a delicious and attractive dessert.

Sweet potato gnocchi

Sweet potato gnocchi pairs well with roasted vegetables and tomato sauce to make a tasty dinner. These gnocchi are suitable for freezing and can be cooked from frozen for convenience.

Until next time 🙂

What I like about this pudding (apart from it being simply delicious) is that it is baked in the oven and no lengthy steaming is...

Add a dash of colour and flavour to January days with one of these zesty citrus recipes. Now is a good time to make a batch of orange marmalade when Seville marmalade oranges are in season in the UK. And as this recipe is suitable for long storage it will keep you in stocked up over the months ahead. These chocolate orange shortbread biscuits have been popular in recent weeks. They are simple to make, perfect for freezing and are one of my favourites. Or you could try this orange and ginger...
